Grant was elected to public office in 2004. Serving eight years during a tough GFC period, in that time.
Grant was a visionary, fighting hard for reforms in sustainable design and living for the Gold Coast having grown up in the City his whole life and sat on the various oversight committees of: City Planning, Sustainable Cities (as Chairman), Deputy Chairman of Water, Community Services Committee, Engineering Services and Events Advisory.
Grant was also proactive and served on other advisory boards connected to GCCC - Gold Coast Water Futures Advisory Committee, Sth. Stradbroke Island Advisory Panels, Coombabah Water Futures. Grant was also invited to attend the Sister City Trade Mission, providing an in-depth International Marine Presentation and Urban Waterfront International Presentations. Grant also sat on and continues to be involved in several Youth Advisory Panels across the City.
